Farm-to-Freezer Project

We’re excited to introduce you to the Farm-to-Freezer project, a tasty collaboration led by the Bellingham Food Bank, in partnership with Bellingham Public Schools, Common Threads, and the Whatcom Community Foundation. The Farm-to-Freezer project has allowed the Bellingham Food Bank to purchase produce from local farmers who have lost their traditional markets due to the pandemic. With the Food Bank able to purchase the product, and the Bellingham Public Schools’ Central Kitchen available to turn that product into delicious, nutritious soups, stews, and sauces to be shared with our community’s most vulnerable populations, Common Threads AmeriCorps members who ordinarily would have been busy teaching kids in school gardens have instead turned their hearts, minds and muscles to the production of 37,000 quarts of product to be frozen for distribution by BPS and the Food Bank in winter months ahead.
