Assumption Catholic School’s garden started in 2009, with support from Common Threads. Assumption has a sister school in Cambodia, and the initial idea was to use revenue generated from the garden to support the sister school while at the same time helping students in Bellingham learn more about eating healthy fruits and vegetables and the concept of sustainability.
Students K-8 enjoy caring for the garden during the school year as well as during the summer months. The garden also provides a hands-on opportunity to be Active Global Citizens, one of Assumption’s School-Wide Learning Expectations, as part of Assumption’s Mission: “All students are expected to reach their potential, achieve a strong faith in God to go forth and make a lasting difference in the world.” Students intend to continue feeding people locally and across the world with real food, education and brotherhood!
Assumption Catholic School has 684 square feet of growing space. The school is located at 2116 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225.
If this school is particularly near and dear to your heart, we’d love to invite you to become a Sponsor or a Summer Garden Care Volunteer!
